MODERN RAILWAYS 2023 was held at China International Exhibition Center, Beijing, November 14-16, 2023. The exhibition covered an area of 37,000 square meters and attracted nearly 400 companies from 15 countries and regions and 60,000 trade visitors from 28 countries and regions. China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. (CHINA RAILWAY) and the International Union of Railways (UIC) jointly hosted the 4th World Railway Cooperation and Development Forum. Furthermore, there were also 11 supporting forums organized by such entities as the China Railway Society, the International Railway Research Board (IRRB), and Chinese Academy of Railway Sciences Corporation Limited. The event was accompanied by several different activities, including new technology and product releases, technical visits, cultural exchanges, and railway science popularization.

China railway achievements
With the theme of "China's Railway Marching Towards Modernization", through exhibition display methods such as naked-eye 3D, high-definition pictures, short videos, physical models, and simulated driving, a comprehensive display will be presented of the landmark achievements of China's railway in aspects such as network construction, transportation operation, scientific and technological innovation, and international cooperation, centrally demonstrating the development achievements and beautiful vision of China's railway.
China railway international cooperation achievements
Relevant domestic enterprises are invited to centrally showcase the achievements of international cooperation, presenting the landmark achievements of jointly building the "the Belt and Road" such as the China-Laos Railway, the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway, and the Hungary-Serbia Railway, expressing the good will of China's railway to sincerely cooperate with the world's railways and share development experiences.
Railway Innovation Alliance
The Railway Innovation Alliance, which is composed of 12 key enterprises, universities and scientific research institutions outside the railway industry and 5 enterprises within the railway industry led by China State Railway Group, jointly participates in the exhibition and centrally showcases the alliance's innovative achievements.
CR regional groups
With the theme of "Enabling Railway Modernization via Tech Innovation", it has four sections: serving national strategies, strengthening tech self-reliance, fulfilling industry duties, and advancing tech transfer. Through large e-screens, sand table models, graphic panels, promo videos and CAVE immersion, it spotlights the China Academy of Railway Sciences' tech innovation in high-quality dev't for railway modernization and its industrial service capabilities.
Railway specialties
Renowned enterprises in the global railway industry such as Alstom, Siemens, Knorr, Westinghouse, CRRC, CRSC, Huawei, and ZTE have presented state-of-the-art products in diverse railway specialty fields, demonstrating the latest technological trends in railway equipment. Meanwhile, a large number of small and medium-sized enterprises have also brought their unique products and technologies, with nearly ten thousand exhibits in total.
Multi-tiered and multi-themed high-level forums to explore the opportunities and challenges for railway
development and share the experiences and achievements for railway cooperation
The 4th World Railway Cooperation and Development Forum was jointly hosted by CHINA RAILWAY and UIC. Additionally, 10 supporting forums were organized by China Railway Society (CRS), International Railway Research Board (IRRB), Chinese Academy of Railway Sciences Corporation (CARS) and other institutions. At these forums, 112 speakers from both at home and abroad delivered speeches to a total of 5,000 attendants, who were high-level representatives from related ministries and commissions of China, international organizations such as UIC, national railway companies dedicated to "Belt and Road " cooperation, and senior executives from the exhibitors.

Concurrent events to ramp up exchanges among the exhibitors, popular science activities to attract proactive participation by the visitors
For exhibitors: we organized new product and technology release and signing ceremonies at the service of 16 local and overseas exhibitors, For trade visitors: We arranged technical visits and singled out a railway cultural and creative exhibition area for several railway industry cultural institutions who showcased their collections, cultural and creative exhibits, paintings, and photographic works, For railway enthusiasts: We gave lectures on railway science and culture, and organized Meetings for Railway Fans and other activities to attract many railway enthusiasts and practitioners.
New Product and Technology Release Activities and Signing Ceremony
At MODERN RAILWAYS 2023, we proactively offered the services of new product and technology release and signing ceremonies, from which 16 exhibitors benefited. They released their railway innovative technology, applications and products, explored the opportunities and challenges of railway development, and introduced new trends for railway industry cooperation and development.
Technical Visits
Choicest visitors were invited to visit the high-speed wheel-rail relationship laboratory, the high-speed pantograph-network relationship laboratory, the 12306 passenger ticket system monitoring center, and the high-speed railway passenger service system laboratory. These visits allowed them to gain a deeper understanding of railway technology and experience China's rapid railway development achievements.
Cultural Activities
To increase public awareness, knowledge, and enthusiasm for railways and to strengthen the promotion of railway culture, various cultural activities for different visitor groups were organized, including the 4th "MODERN RAILWAYS Cup" photography contest, the first "I am a little railway painter" children's painting exhibition, and the first "MODERN RAILWAYS Cup" short video competition, as well as railway collection show, railway cultural and creative show and exhibitors’ stamps seeking activities. These creative shows and activities with fun increased the visitors’ interest in participation and enriched their knowledge about intelligent high-speed rail. The sizable display boards at the outdoor exhibition area caught the eyes of large numbers of trade visitors.

People's Daily, Xinhua News Agency, China Media Group, Guangming Daily, Economic Daily, China Daily, China Youth Daily, China News Service, China Traffic Radio, Beijing Daily, Beijing Television, Beijing Traffic Radio and other central and local mass media extensively reported on the exhibition and forums. On-site reports and live streams by railway professional media such as China Railway, People's Railway, China Academy of Railway Sciences Corporation Limited, Rail World, E-car Network all helped to make MODERN RAILWAYS 2023 known to the vast public.
