Background
MODERN
RAILWAYS,
the only large international railway exhibition in China that is approved by the
Chinese Ministry of Railways, has been successfully held for 5 times since 1992,
winning high acclaim from the Chinese government, enterprises and railway manufacturers
and suppliers of all countries.
MODERN RAILWAYS 2002, held in Beijing in June 2002, attracted more
than 150 manufacturers and suppliers from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada,
China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland
and the United States. Over14,000 government officials, decision-makers and professionals
visited the exhibition. Leading government officials who attended the exhibition
included
Fu Zhihuan, Minister of MOR, P. R. China Liu Zhijun,
Sun Yongfu, and Cai Qinghua, Vice Ministers of MOR Wei Jianguo, Vice Minister
of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, China Shi

During the exhibition, a Forum on Railway Development Strategy
was held at Beijing Hotel, participated by governmental officials, experts and
scholars from both at home and aboard, and senior managers from well-known enterprises
under MOR, Development and Research Center under the State Council. Presentations
were given by the representatives from Bombardier, Siemens, Alstom and JRC on
railway development strategy, advanced technologies of locomotive and rolling
stock. Technical seminars were hosted by Nexans, SKF, GM, Balfour Beatty, Korea
High-speed Railway Construction Group and other related manufacturers on high-speed
railway, train operation safety, traction and power, and new materials. MODERN
RAILWAYS 2003 aims at providing an outstanding platform for the manufacturers
and suppliers from all over the world to understand China's current situation,
requirement and investment environment, unfold their corporate image and technical
innovations, and intensify exchanges and cooperation with the Chinese railways.
Major themes of this exhibition are high-speed railway,
heavy-haul transportation, informatization, safety and construction.
Advanced technology and equipment of from overseas on high-speed railway construction,
high-speed train operation, safety operation, informatization, and improvement
on railway construction level are especially welcome for display at MODERN
RAILWAYS 2003. During the exhibition period, a high-level forum
on "Innovation and Railway Development" will be held. Government officials,
senior managers of famous enterprises from both China and overseas and high-level
